Beat the wind at Basalt

Basalt Island - 26th September 2020

On our way out to Nine Pins this weekend we encountered heavy winds and rising swell so we turn sharp East and got a great day of diving at Basalt Island - another favorite. The Eastern winds were hitting the East side of the island leaving our Western dive spot reasonably calm.

Thanks to the surge the viz was somewhat reduced, particularly in the deeper areas where the special soft corals are.

Yet we had great sightings. Aside from the usual clownfish and scorpionfish some of our groups had sightings of Moray Eels, Octopus, Cuttlefish. Diving in Hong Kong never disappoints.

Oh, and it was Mary's birthday which we celebrated at Momentai afterwards!
